I am constantly amazed by scholars who claim that we, two thousand years after the event, can claim to have a better understanding of Biblical times than those who lived in them. Despite popular belief, the discoveries of the last century, most notably the Dead Sea Scrolls, have only served to reinforce the history and traditions of Christianity.

Discussion questions.

  • How can we answer the claim that Jesus was primarily concerned about resisting Roman domination?
  • It is true that today's Christians often take Jesus out of the political mileau in which He lived and preached. How can we incorporate that knowledge, and how will it help grow our faith?
  • Paul was indeed a "religious genius", but not the way that Wilson states. What was at the heart of Paul's message?
