“Peace be with you!” (Jn 20:19). With these, the first words of the Risen Lord to his disciples, I greet all of you in the joy of this Easter season. Before all else, I thank God for the blessing of being in your midst.

The world focused on Washington, DC and New York this past week as Pope Benedict XVI visited the United States.  His homily at Nationals Baseball Stadium was particularly stirring.

Questions to Consider:

  • What are your reactions to the Papal visit?  As Presbyterians, we do not invest that much power in one man, yet we are still moved by his visit.  Why?
  • The Apostles' Creed states that we believe in "the holy catholic church".  If the essential unity of the church is part of our core belief, can we not find common grounds between Protestant and Roman Catholic believers?  What are they?
  • Pope Benedict XVI is a man of high intellect and holds staunchly to the traditions of the church.  People are flocking to him, and there seems to be a resurgence in the Roman Catholic faith.  Are there lessons we can take from him?
