The Westminster Confession of Faith, 20.1In Christ believers have free access to God and can obey Him, not out of slavish fear, but with a childlike love and a willing mind. The thing about obeying God and keeping His Law that many people don’t understand is that these are things the true believer does not chafe against. We love the Lord Who has made us free! And we know that, in Him, and in His Word, we have full and abundant life. We delight to read and study the Law of God and grow to love it more and more as we do. This is no yoke to bear, but a liberating key to a full and abundant life of loving God and neighbors. Even more, we actually have access into the very presence of God. We can enter into His glory, know His presence, rest in Him, shelter in Him, draw strength and comfort from Him. Christ has freed us from everything that kept us away from God and has liberated us into His fellowship, where are fullness of joy and pleasures forevermore (Ps. 16.11). Only in Christ is this freedom granted, and all who truly know and love Him make the most of this freedom to dwell in the presence of God and know the favor of His grace. Read Ephesians 2.14-22: Free in Christ to dwell in the presence of God, we are members of one household, one family. How should this affect our attitude toward our fellow believers? Toward the lost?
