The Westminster Confession of Faith, 20.1Christians also have greater boldness of access to the throne of grace and a fuller gift of the Spirit of God than believers ordinarily had under the law. The fullness of what God intends for us is yet to be; only in glory, in the new heavens and new earth, will we know full, complete, and total freedom to be the people God created us to be. But now, in the time of the Gospel and the Holy Spirit, we have a strong measure of freedom, a sure and glorious foretaste of the full freedom to come, so that we can already know more of the full and abundant life than our Old Testament forebears in the faith ever knew. John the Baptist was the greatest man ever born of a woman, Jesus said; but he who is least in the Kingdom God is greater than John. We have a fuller taste of the freedom that shall one day be completely ours. Let us revel in that freedom, herald that freedom, and make progress in that freedom, so that we may know the joy of our salvation and show a living hope to the watching world. Read Hebrews 11.39, 40: Old Testament believers had true and saving faith. They are an example for us. But in what sense does our faith surpass even theirs?
